He was born in Vancouver on September 4, 1941 to parents Norbert and Phyllis Jacoby (Loxton) both deceased. He is survived by his sister Norlene Benezra(Leon) deceased . So many nieces and nephews and " greats". His first cousins, Dale Fidler and Nancy Aichberger (Billy) deceased(Kirsten and Nicholas). His wife, Linda Ferguson and son Shaun Jacoby (Dana). Step grandson Micheal Ryder (Katelyn) great granddaughter Rose(who he nicknamed Petunia, sweetie pie!) When she was told Gramps had passed, she said her head and toes were sad but not the rest of her body...words of a 3 year old. Perfect. And step grandson AJ Ryder (Roxy). Also survived by his in-laws Joyce and Tony Loft(Jeff, Kelly, (Dan, deceased). Heather Galick ( Darryl, Shelley) and Brian Ferguson (Erik , Kelly) and many great nieces and nephews as well.
Marty had a somewhat colourful work life. He was a Singer Sewing Machine repairman, worked for Jacoby Brothers Jewelry. He worked for a geologist way, way up north. He drove truck for CN and CP. He operated, then owned and operated, White Mountain Fish and Cross-country ski camp at McCulloch for 9 years. He worked at Kelowna Chrysler and as a helper for a home builder. He went back to college in his 50's and passed a course in golf course management. He worked at Michaelbrook Ranch Golf course, not in management but on the greens and loved it for 16 years! Favourite job, ever.! He retired for a while, but boredom set in, and he drove for a contractor for the Postal Service until he was 80.
He sure took Linda on a few adventures. They crossed what they could of Canada in an old converted Bread Truck. The camp did not have running water or electricity and they were there for 9 years (where Shaun was born). Their official first date in 1970 was to a movie theatre in downtown Vancouver and Linda ended up by pushing his car into a parking spot as it had no reverse. They were together for 55 years. Go figure.
He fought a hard battle with his second bout of cancer. We would say a few curse words here about that insidious disease, but it would not be printed.
Marty was very fortunate to have good men in his life. Terry A., Edward S. ,Brian F., Tony L., Clayton B., Dave Mc., Dave D., Kenny R., Tim S., Ron T., John L., Randy T., Brian M., Gord M., Lorne E., Denny D., Bill S., Steve D., and we thank you for that. Sorry if we have missed anyone.
His greatest achievement was raising a strong, kind, and thoughtful son, Shaun. He gives his daughter-in-law, Dana, ten thumbs up!!
We wish to thank our wonderful Doctor Alastair Bryce for all his help and compassion. Thank you to 3 West nurses, and thanks to all Palliative nurses. It takes special people to be in the Medical Profession. Our final thanks go to First Memorial Funeral Services for their professional discretion.
Our step-granddaughter (in-law) summed Marty up, close to perfection..."Marty's rough and pseudo-grumpy exterior poorly hid a kind man, always ready to lend a hand and a big laugh. Thank you ,Katelyn.
There will be no service as Marty had requested. We hope to have a celebration of life in the future.
For all who knew him well, raise a glass of Lemon Hart and Coke for one last " CHEERS"!
Bye Schmawty!
