September 17, 1922 – August 11, 2021
Opal passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC on August 11, 2021. In the days before her passing, many of her family were able to say their goodbyes to this much loved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Opal was born to Charles Hodgins and Edna Pearl in Salmon Arm, BC on September 17, 1922. She married William Harry Moore in 1940. She was predeceased by her husband in 1968; her son Michael in 1986; her sisters Marjorie Sutherland, Lenore Brewster, and Marie Reynolds; and her brother Jim Hodgins. Opal is survived by her brothers Bernard Hodgins and Jack Hodgins. Opal will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her eleven children, Myrna (Bill) Zack, Donna Devins, Patrick (Sandra), Shelagh (William) Stienstra, Lynne (Terry) Brandel, Jerrold (Maria), Laurie (Allan) McLean, Peggy (Normand) Boucher, Elizabeth (Michael) Robleski, Kathleen (James) Allison, and Christine (Kevin) Fownes. Grams will be remembered by 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Opal was an avid crossword puzzle solver. Spending time fishing in northern BC with her brothers and sisters meant so much to her. She also enjoyed trips to Mexico, Cuba and Germany with her family. Opal took several trips to see the Toronto Blue Jays play and was delighted and surprised when the stadium displayed “Happy Birthday Opal” on the scoreboard. The Jays have lost their biggest fan and we have lost our matriarch. As much as we will miss our mother, sister and grandmother, we take comfort in knowing she has a fishing pole in one hand a lucky beer in the other, sitting around a campfire with her husband, son, brothers and sisters. Love you too Sweetie.
Family will celebrate Opal’s life on what would have been her 99th birthday, September 17, 2021 in Kelowna, BC
