28 September 1948 – 3 May 2021
The Pachal Family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather, R. Elton Pachal on Monday, May 3, 2021.
He was born Robert Elton Pachal, the fifth child of Samuel and Margaret (nee Rennie) Pachal, on September 28, 1948 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Elton left Yorkton to attend the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce Degree, eventually becoming a Chartered Accountant. He met his future wife, Kathleen, when he and a friend claimed to be members of the Yorkton Welcoming Committee for trainee nurses who were on practicum in town.
Elton and Kathy married in 1970 and embarked on many adventures together. These included hitchhiking from Sydney through the Australian Outback to Perth and travelling through Europe with their eldest son Aaron as a toddler in their backpack. They eventually settled in Leduc, Alberta where Elton was a partner in the Chartered Accountant firm, Froment & Williamson and there they raised their two boys. Wanting to spend more time with his family, in 1987 Elton accepted an administrative position with New Zealand Post and the family moved to New Zealand. They then moved to Australia for several years before returning to Canada in 1992. In Canada, Elton and Kathy settled in British Columbia where they owned and operated Natural Rezources Health Food store in downtown Kelowna for many years.
For the last year, Elton stubbornly fought his cancer diagnosis with his usual wit, humour and concern for his family. He was known as a kind and caring gentleman who was always interested in the welfare of others. Even over the last few months when friends and family called to check on him, he would often ask “Enough about me: how are you doing?”.
As a member of the Glenmore Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Elton had strong faith in his Creator, which provided him with much comfort. He was particularly fond of and found solace in the scripture found at Revelation 21:4.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sons Aaron (Joanna) and Josh (Sharla) and four very special young people who always brought a smile to his face: his grandchildren Annika, Mackenzie, Erin and Samuel. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Yvonne Wildman and many other in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings.
A livestream service will be held over Zoom on Saturday May 15 at 3:00 p.m. Please contact the family for access details.
