April 14, 1930 - July 21, 2024
Vicki passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gus, in 2001. She was the much loved mother of Dean Anderson (Cathy) and Arleigh Anderson (Roger Mutimer), cherished grandmother of Neil Anderson (Bev Nolan) and Thea Anderson (Edward Hicks). She was delighted by her great-grandchildren, Miles and Liv Anderson. She is survived by her sister Verna Pippen in Ridgecrest, California and sisters-in-law Angie Dowholis in Theodore, Saskatchewan and Clem Dowholis in Bowmanville, Ontario. She loved being an Aunt and Great Aunt to many. She was predeceased by her siblings Michael, Mary, Bill, Bella, Fred and Alice.
Vicki was born in the district of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan to Steve and Annie Dowholis and lived in Theodore and Broadview, Saskatchewan until 1966. In her early years she was a care aide at the Theodore Union Hospital. She and Gus were married in 1951 and had two children. Vicki was never one to sit still. She was a Cub leader and volunteer in her community. In 1966, Gus and Vicki moved their family to Penticton, where she learned floral design and worked for Gallop’s Flower Shop. In 1968, they moved to Kelowna where she worked at Karen’s Flower Shop and later at Burnett’s Flowers and Greenhouse. Vicki was a very artistic person and loved working with her hands. She took a cake decorating course at Okanagan College and decorated many beautiful wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. Vicki worked at Peoples Food Market doing demos for several years. She and Gus were very involved with the square dance community in Kelowna. They were also very involved with St. Paul’s United Church. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years.
Vicki was adventurous and travelled to many destinations. She loved to garden, knit and bake, and was very generous with her produce. More than anything, she loved being with family and celebrating occasions with garden and neighbourhood garage parties.
Vicki will be dearly missed. We thank all those who have offered their support during this time. The family also wishes to thank the Mission Creek Landing care and administrative staff who looked after her so well over the last 4 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. at First Memorial, 1121 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation to the Kelowna Hospital Foundation is appreciated.
