With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William (Bill) Hatley, a beloved partner, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother and friend. Bill left this world surrounded by love on February 11, 2024.
Bill was a man of integrity, a man who always kept his word and stood by his principles. He was a dedicated father to his five children, Jason (Diana), Jonathan (Jenny), Jamie (Natasha), Rory and Meghan. His grandchildren McKenzie, Brooklyn, Emily, Carter, Jacob, and a new little one on the way, were very cherished.
His stepchildren Michael (Sara) and Aimee (Jesse) also loved Bill as if he was their own father and were thankful for his devotion to their mother, Sherrill. They knew they didn't need to worry with Billy by her side, because together, Sherrill and Bill shared a special bond built on love, mutual respect and unwavering support. Their relationship was a source of strength and comfort for each other, exemplifying the true meaning of companionship and commitment.
Bill's sister, Marilyn (Jim), held a special place in Bill's heart and their nightly calls at 8:30 to check on each other's day was a cherished tradition.
A man of simple pleasures, Bill found great joy in his work in the Crane business, considering his work clothes as his "good clothes."
However, his true happiness lay in the annual fishing trips to Pennask Lake with his sons, grandsons and lifelong buddies. His hunting adventures with his sons, dear friends and hunting partners, Ken Sr, and Ken's son, Kenny Jr, fulfilled his love for the outdoors and the camaraderie that came with it that spanned almost 60 years.
Bill adored his last home at the Meadowbrook Estates in Kelowna. He was able to assist and contribute to keeping the complex as beautiful and functioning as it was along with the great friends he met there and enjoyed so much. He became a beloved member of the amazing Meadowbrook family.
Bill was known for his kindness, selflessness and unfaltering support for his family, friends and willingness to go the extra mile to help those in need. He was a man of few wants, always preferring to give than to receive, content with his life and appreciating what he had. His charming personality and wry sense of humour brought smiles to countless faces right up until the end. Bill's positive outlook on life was infectious and he refused to let anything dampen his spirits.
Bill's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege, as he was a man who inspired respect, care and love from everyone he met.
In honouring Bill's memory, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, generosity and unwavering positivity. May his spirit live on in the hearts of those that were touched by his presence.
Rest in peace, Bill. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
"At the end of the day, all that matters is how well we have loved and how gently we have touched the hearts of others."
Thank you to the caring and compassionate providers that were there for Bill during the brief but difficult time before his passing. From the paramedics, to the hospital staff, nurses, technicians, and doctors, who never made you feel they were in a rush. A special thank you to Dr. Ali and his support and understanding in his explanations to the family.
Also thank you to Breanna of First Memorial Funeral Services for making a difficult time in to such a positive experience. No words can express how much that is appreciated.
