My dad, Colin, shared a very special bond with his sister Yvonne. Having spent 3 years at a Barnado’s home, they were both fostered by different people living in Woolpit and lived virtually next door to one another. He used to call for her to walk to school and, she told me, she felt guilty for often making him late as he had to wait for her to finish all her chores. They both looked out for each other during those difficult childhood years. When Yvonne emigrated to Canada, they kept in touch and used to phone each other on their birthdays. Yvonne and Reg visited a number of times when they came to England and Colin and his wife Sue stayed with them twice in Canada. They were very special times.
When I was 19, I travelled alone to Vancouver ( my first time abroad), because I wanted to get to know the person my Dad spoke of with such love, as well as her family. Yvonne took 2 weeks holiday from work to show me all the sights. I had a wonderful time. Yvonne and all the family were so very kind. I got to know Yvonne well and saw so many similarities with my dad: kindness, generosity, selflessness, a lovely sense of humour and a dazzling smile.
Dad has Alzheimer’s and now remembers none of these things but I want all her family to know just how much she meant to him. He loved her so much and was very proud of her.
The world is a lesser place without her in it.

I had the privilege of meeting Yvonne in the summer of 2003 but we were connected by love since 1978.  Yvonne and Jane have a large space in my heart:  An unmeasurable Gift shared with each other. ❤️.  Yvonne was an extraordinarily loving person, beautiful in appearance with a huge giving heart.  She loved her family  without reservation.   I sincerely look forward to the day when we will be together again here on earth, with eternity to enjoy each other’s company.  We have a shared hope in the resurrection promised in the Bible when there will be no more pain and sorrow … Revelation 21:3,4🌹. 

The world is a better place because of Yvonne.
She was a small person with a huge heart that cared about others more than herself.
She always wanted to help and make other people’s lives better.
She was the glue that held the family together and will never be forgotten.


Nana was one of the most important people in my life and will continue to be until the day I die.  Not many people have the opportunity to say they were as close to their great grandmother like I can, and for that, I will be forever grateful.  Nana had the most gentle soul- caring and loving deeply for everyone in her life.  She always showed me what good really was and it brought me comfort to know that it still existed.  The world will never be the same without her, but I feel her with me everyday.  I love you, Nana!  Always and forever.
