Dear Murphy family - my sincere condolences for your loss. Mike was a strong positive influence as a teacher and coach at Cardinal Dougherty HS. He proved  that you could be a "good guy" at the same time that you were a respected teacher and mentor.

I used to play tennis with Mike back in the 1970s ,at the Buffalo Tennis Center, along with another teacher Joseph Coleman who taught at Cardinal Doudherty. Oddly enough right across from us was Jimmy Arise from Grand Island. Boy could he play! He eventually became ranked about number 10 in the world. When we got done playing we would see old Mayor Griffin relaxing. Mike was a wonder man and I would see him occasionally when working. Sorry for your loss. Our sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the sudden passing of our neighbor for so many years on Brinton Street back in the 60's and 70's.  Mike always had a smile and good words for everyone. He will be missed.

Dear Eileen, Andrew and Daniel  We are so sorry to hear of Michael's passing.  We were close friends and fellow employees of the Concerned Ecumenical Ministry in the late 60's & early 70's.  Mike was a fine example of Christ here on Earth. He had a lasting impact on many lives including
mine.  I have wonderful memories of Mike and will feel his loss even though we have lost contact over the years.  May the God who loved and directed Michael's life be with you to comfort you.

Eileen, I am so sorry to hear about Murph.  I know people will say a lot of really nice things after something like this happens but I just want to say that Murph was truly someone special to me.  I can't say that there are a lot of people that have had an impact on who I am today, but Murph was one of them.  He taught me so much and most of it wasn't in the classroom or on the tennis court (although he was a great teacher and coach).  It was to believe in something good and then live your life to show it.  I'll never forget him.

Such a great person.  Had "Murph" at Cardinal Dougherty and he helped me get through some tough times in my life when it seemed like things were beyond hope.  He became a family friend who my mom just loved to feed too much.... and my dad just loved to talk about politics with.  Later on in life I ran into him at SJCI when I coached hockey there.  Thanks Mr. Murphy for all your help, guidance and great conversation.  The world needs more people like Michael Murphy.  My condolences to the family.

Mike and I were classmates at St. Joseph Gammer School,  our parents were close friends, so we crossed paths our whole life. I was shocked and saddened by the news of Michael Murphy's untimely passing. I first knew him as "Mr Murphy" at St. Joes, where he was the most devout and faithful teacher I had ever encountered. Eileen and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. When I started teaching at Cardinal Dougherty, Mike was the first person I met and was so wonderful and welcoming to me. He made my transition into teaching easy with his advice and friendship. I am so happy I got to visit with him in December when I was in Buffalo. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

He cared about his teaching, his tennis, his running, his politics. But above all, he loved you with all his being, How proud and loving he must have been with Lyla. I will miss him.

Be assured of my continuing prayers for you and all the family. I guess I'm a believer that God gives us special friends in life; I always referred to Michael as a "brother in Christ". The two of us have been through a lot of ups and downs in Buffalo, both of us of arriving at some point of joy in our spirits. That's how I'll remember Michael-a guy whose joyfulness was bursting out all the time-especially when he told me about finding you a few years ago, and finding the two young men with you. Nothing can make this next period of your life any easier...but you will learn again how much Michael contributed to our communities during his time with us.

Mr. Murphy was my religion teacher at St. Joe's twenty years ago.  I always liked him; my thoughts/prayers go to his family.

My deepest condolences.  Mike taught Religion at Cardinal Dougherty my senior year there then many years later when my son was at St Joes, there he was again!  Nice guy.  So sad.
