On Friday, August 21st, our mother Aileen Quinn of Kennesaw, Ga - formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed from life to light. She was whisked away into the warmth and comfort of God”s arms, even as her two loving children held her in theirs.
She was born Aileen L Atkinson in the small village of Windermere , England in an area known as the Lake District in 1932 to her mother Ruth Mona Atkinson. While still small, her mother sadly took ill and died, and she was then cared for by her uncle, Douglas Atkinson, a police constable and veteran of Her Majesty’s Navy who would serve as Chief of The River Tyne Police for many years. After witnessing firsthand the Nazi’s relentless bombing of Britain in WW II, she flourished and eventually attended Nurse Training School, obtaining a certificate of diploma. She would marry and have a son, Jeremy Douglas Bennett, and move to the US in the mid 1950’s. Soon thereafter, she gave birth to her second son, Scott, and her daughter Lisa. She proudly earned her US citizenship in the early 70’s. Because of her compulsion to help people, she worked as a Social Worker for many years in both Iowa and Nebraska. It would be her ever present desire to learn and grow and provide for her family that would lead to her eventually obtaining a Real Estate License, selling and managing property until her retirement.
Those who went before her include her mother Ruth, grandmother Mary, her uncle and guardian - Douglas Atkinson, and her son Jeremy Douglas Bennett. Those of us left behind for a little while include her two remaining children, son Scott Porter of Coralville, Iowa and daughter Lisa Rawlins of Kennesaw, Ga.
She also is survived by eight grandchildren - Amber, Travis, Scotty, Samantha, Nicholas, Jordan, Eden, and Julia and nine great grandchildren that she loved.
Her absence leaves a great void.
