Carlene Lavone Curlee, age 88, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025. She was born on June 19, 1936, near Briscoe, Texas, to Glen and Lucille George, and grew up alongside her sister, Voncille George Kirkpatrick, in a home filled with faith, family, and simplicity.
Carlene graduated from West Texas State College and went on to become a teacher before starting her family in Amarillo, TX.
On August 14, 1954, Carlene married the love of her life, Bobby Joe Curlee. They shared 67 years of devoted marriage—raising a family, serving their community, and walking hand-in-hand through every season of life—until Bobby's passing on September 3, 2021.
Carlene was the proud mother of four children: Lucinda Curlee Reyna, who is married to Pat Reyna; Belinda Curlee Broussard, widow of Thomas Broussard; Byron Curlee, married to Holly Curlee; and Andrea Curlee Rogers, who preceded her in death in 1996. She was also blessed with six granddaughters, Meshea, Danae, Michaela, Andrea, Canaan Elizabeth, Ruth; three grandsons, Zachary, Benjamin, Judah Mark; and five great-grandchildren, who were each a joy to her heart.
Carlene was a lifelong homemaker whose love for her family shaped everything she did. Her hands were rarely still—she loved gardening, sewing, DIY projects, and crafting. She had a creative spirit and a nurturing soul, always finding ways to bring beauty and care into her home and the lives of those around her.
She also had a deep passion for health and wellness, often mentoring others in nutrition and sharing her advice with grace and generosity. Whether through her counsel, her teaching, or her quiet encouragement, Carlene helped others live with intention and care.
Faith was the cornerstone of her life. Raised in the Methodist church, she remained active in the body of Christ throughout her years, becoming a beloved member of Trinity Baptist of Amarillo, TX; Piedmont Baptist and Roswell Street Baptist in Marietta, GA; and Woodstock First Baptist Church, where she joyfully served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Her walk with the Lord was authentic and steady, and her love for Scripture and worship was evident to all.
Carlene lived a life of quiet strength, creative joy, and sacrificial love. Her home was a haven. Her words were gentle and wise. And her presence was a gift. She now rests in the eternal peace of her Savior, reunited with her beloved husband Bobby and her precious daughter Andrea.
She will be missed deeply and remembered forever.
“Her children arise and call her blessed.” – Proverbs 31:28
