Carole Sue Simmons was born on January 25, 1942 to John and Gladys Serene in Kansas City, Ks. She passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023 lovingly surrounded by family in Cartersville, Ga. Carole was the sister of Herb Serene, Patti Clark, Don Serene, Beverly Phillips, and Barbara Witt. Carole met Charles “Chuck” Troxel while working at Montgomery Ward in Kansas City, and they married in 1961. They had three children: Pam Troxel (Susan), Brad Troxel (Felice), and Jay Troxel (Cindy), and Carole was “Nana” to her granddaughter, Alyssa Marrs. Carole was also a special Aunt to her many nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly. She was an active member at St Paul UMC and formed life long friendships in her church family while serving her Lord. After her children started school, Carole worked as an Executive Secretary for several companies in Atlanta and later transferred into sales. Following the death of Chuck in 1989, Carole later married Don Simmons and spent many retirement years traveling throughout Europe, the US and the Caribbean. Carole lived life to the fullest, never missing an opportunity for adventure or a challenge. With excitement, she quickly accepted invites for adventures such as a canoe trip, snow coach ride through Yellowstone, co-piloting a bi-plane in a flight lesson, a quick spin on the back of her sons’ motorcycles, or an extended beach trip. As a Mom, she was our sports coach, school classroom mother, band parent and played never-ending additional roles for our family. She loved her sporty cars, spending time on the lake fishing, and caring for the family pet schnauzers. Carole also enjoyed traveling with her schnauzers in competition, and was proud to win numerous awards at dog shows throughout the Southeast, including Best of Breed. Porsche, her recent schnauzer, was Carole’s beloved constant companion that brought so much joy and her children referred to as her “favorite child”. Carole loved to bake, and could make pies that were deserving of the cover of Southern Living. She had a talent for creating beautiful baked “works of art” in the kitchen, and enjoyed spending hours making special desserts for each of her family members. After the death of her Don, Carole moved to Cartersville to begin a new chapter. Carole frequently stated that she lived a full and wonderful life. She felt that she was blessed to have been married to two of the best men God ever created, traveled much of the world, and had a family that loved her dearly. She asked, With so many blessings, what else on Earth could I ever ask for? The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to special angels on Earth who helped to provide loving care in her final years. These include caregivers with Quality Care Senior Services, the staff of The Fountains of Cartersville, and Amedysis Hospice.
