Yui-Hur met his lifelong love, Sue Chai, at the young age of ten years old. From then on, they began their seventy-two year lifelong journey together until his passing. Yui-Hur lead an extraordinary life; his dreams, goals, and loving nature saved his family from communism. In 1977 he fled with his wife and five kids to a refugee camp in Ubon, Thailand. They spent a few years at the refugee camp until 1980 when the Sacred Heart Catholic Church sponsored his family and immigrated to Warner Robins, Georgia in the United States of America.
Yui-Hur began working at a local Chinese restaurant in Warner Robins. He started work as a dish washer and quickly worked his way to a prep chef. He was a fast learner and in only two years became a cook. After a few years, he became a chef and continued this throughout his career. In 1987, with only an elementary education, he achieved the American Dream and opened his own family restaurant in Macon, Georgia. Yui-Hur continued to look for greater opportunities which led him to relocate his family to Atlanta, Georgia in 1989 to run another restaurant.
Yui-Hur worked hard every day but also knew how to enjoy the little things in life. In his spare time, Yui-Hur loved karaoke, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. After all his kids graduated he began to travel the world with his wife visiting families and friends.
Chai Yui-Hur was a very humble, loving, family man.
He is a Tiger and fought life’s battles to the very end.
He is preceded in death by his older brothers Chai Yui-Yo and Chai Yui-Cai, younger sister Chai Fu-Yo, daughter Chai Xiao Yun, and grandson Adam Elkins.
He is survived by his wife Sue Chai, his younger brother, Phone Vilayvong, sister-in-law Bouvanh Vilayvong, sister-in-law Kensone Phankham, and younger sister Somchit Somchat; his children Kim Lui (Ru Jen Liu), Ky Phanhsavath (Lilian Chong), Kham Chai (James Brown), Phet Phillips (Tyler Phillips), and Seng Phanhsavath; his grandchildren Ellis Liu (Riley Bowden), Jimmy Liu, Christian Nelson, Coby McClure, Conrad Chai, Aaron Chai (Jennifer Tilley), Halona Chai, Paxton Chai, Oswin Chai, Maxwell Phillips, and Fletcher Elkins and Jane Elkins; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral Mass at 1 pm on Friday, July, 5, 2019 at Holy Name of Jesus Chinese Catholic Mission, 5395 Light Circle N, Norcross, Ga 30071 with Rev. Bill Hao officiating.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11 am at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Ga 30152. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, July 6th, one hour prior to the service.
