Grant dedicated 34 years of his professional life to AT&T, working as an Engineer until his retirement. His career took him traveling across the world. That path eventually led him to Central America – primarily Guatemala and Honduras – where he spent close to a decade as the Director of Operations, guiding teams and projects with the same steady leadership and integrity that defined his life.
Grant was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Glenda Bigham Higgins, for 62 wonderful years. Their adventures together began in 1968 with their first trip to Los Angeles, sparking a lifelong love of travel that took them all over the world. Among their many journeys, the Panama Canal and Alaska cruises remained two of their most cherished experiences. Together they built a beautiful family with four children, and Grant led that family with quiet strength, deep devotion, and the steady presence that defined him as a loving patriarch.
A devoted fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football, Grant could often be found watching his team with steady enthusiasm. He enjoyed bowling, country music, and reading every science fiction book he could get his hands on. Grant took a keen interest in politics and current events, faithfully watching the news and staying informed. He loved camping, the outdoors, and he spent many years involved in the Boy Scouts, including serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster while Jon and Jeff were in Scouts. Above all, he cherished family holidays and gatherings. Gifted with languages, Grant was trilingual, fluent in German, Spanish, and English.
For more than 60 years, Grant was a devoted member of Chamblee-Sardis Masonic Lodge No. 444 F&AM. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a distinction that emphasizes philosophy, ethics, and service rather than rank. He also served as Past Master of Chamblee-Sardis Masonic Lodge.
Grant is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Bigham Higgins; sons, Jonathan Higgins & wife Shannon and Jeffrey Higgins & wife Cindy; daughter, Jessica Dale Soler & partner Thomas Rude; brother, Jerry Higgins & husband Bob Greenberg; grandchildren, Michael Higgins, William Parker & wife Taylor, Lukas Soler, Rebecca Parker, Layla Soler, Jim Higgins, Anya Higgins, Rowan Soler, Daniel Parker, Nathan Higgins, and River Rude; son-in-law, Steve Parker; and good friend, Andres Soler. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his beloved daughter, Jennifer Higgins Parker.
