Larry Edward Knight
May 16, 1946 – June 19, 2016
Larry passed away quietly in his Marietta home in the early hours of June 19, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue Knight. His son, Michael Knight (Julie). His daughters, Amanda Colclasure (Kevin) and Rebecca Knight. Four grandchildren who were the light of his life, Taylor Colclasure, Will Colclasure, Hannah Knight and Emma Knight. His sister, Noel Jean Golden (Ben) and several nieces and nephews. Brother and sister in law, Mark and Jenny Egli. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Veta Knight.
Larry and Sue have a love that was like none other. Both were each other’s first love and were devoted to each other in a way that is hard to describe. They were married young and in the military. They formed a bond that would withstand the test of time. After 48 years of marriage, 3 children and 4 grandchildren later, we know that Larry will be standing at the gates of heaven waiting on his bride when her time on this earth is done.
Larry devoted close to thirty years of his life working for APAC, where he was an Equipment Manager. He made many lifelong friendships thru this work and spoke highly of them all. After 6 months of retirement, Larry went back into the workforce and worked for 12 more years with Cummins Power South in many roles.
Larry was a true family man. He spent many days at the ball park with first his children and later in life his grandchildren. He was truly their biggest fan. He touched many lives within the community through his coaching and support of local youth sports.
Larry’s backyard was his oasis. From his Green Egg and grill to his many bird feeders that fed the yellow finches, cardinals, bluebirds and hummingbirds and to his dismay the occasional squirrel, he spent many an hour enjoying life to the fullest there. Larry enjoyed cooking with an extra emphasis on outdoor grilling and shared this passion of food with many. From the team BBQ’s that fed 200 to the early evening cooking for just his wife and himself, he enjoyed the smell of hickory and smoke. With a TV on the back porch, he spent Sunday afternoons watching Nascar, one of his all-time favorite sports. Any other time of the week you could count on a cooking show to be his program of choice.
Larry’s smile and laugh were infectious. His quick wit and sense of humor were a trademark that many enjoyed.
Larry enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, and loved to fly fish when he got the opportunity.
Larry’s family will be accepting guests on Friday 6/24/16 from 4-8pm at Winkenhoffer Pine Ridge in Kennesaw GA. Memorial Contributions can be made to The American Heart Association,
