Marilyn E. Dunbar, born March 3, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Gustov and Huldah Oakland, passed surrounded by love after a life filled with warmth, faith, and joyful service.
A devoted wife, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Kenneth W. Dunbar, and they shared 61 beautiful years together until his passing in 2012.
A woman of deep faith, Marilyn worshipped for many years at Noon Day Baptist Church, where she was an active member, longtime greeter, and participant in Sunday Bible study. She cared for her community as a volunteer poll worker and was known for welcoming everyone with a smile—she never met a stranger.
Marilyn took great pride in her family. She is survived by her sons Randel W. Dunbar and Keith C. Dunbar (Dori); grandchildren Dillon Dunbar (Mandy), Cana Dunbar Connaughton (Alec), Ashley Rowell (Marcus), and Afton Hall (Adam); five beautiful great-granddaughters and two handsome great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth W. Dunbar and her son Darren L. Dunbar.
Marilyn loved cooking and serving for her family. She made sure no one left the table hungry and how great was the food she prepared! Marilyn enjoyed playing board and card games, cheering at her sons’ baseball games, camping with the Scotty Camping Club and listening to Elvis Presley. She was the life of any gathering, with her contagious laugh, a keen sense of style and a heart that always made peace and cared for others.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
