Reflections of the Life of Maurice Clifford Campbell
“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
Maurice C. Campbell, affectionately known to all as “Campbell” was born on October 1, 1946 to the late Willie and Ruby Campbell in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest of 4 children born to this union - Marvin, Maurice, Michael and Willie Jr. Both parents preceded him in death as well as his siblings Marvin and Michael.
Maurice was educated in the Chicago Public School system until he and his family relocated to Freesoil, MI where he graduated high school and went on to attend University of Detroit. He got married, and two children were born of this union (Jon and Gail). Although that union did not last, he went on to meet the love of his life - Mozelle Mason, and they wed November 24, 1978. No children were born of this union, but Maurice affectionately became the father of Mozelle’s daughter, Micole. They were all together until he passed on July 23, 2020.
As a Master Electrician, Campbell perfected his craft and worked tirelessly in the Metro Detroit area including the City of Detroit. He even served as Union Steward for several years. In September 1980, with a flip of a coin, he relocated to Atlanta, with his Georgia Peach Mozelle (who he affectionately called Mozel), and his bonus daughter Micole by his side.
He started his career in Atlanta with Gateway Electricians, and went on to hold positions with the city and county. He was a member of I.B.E.W. where he worked and mentored other electricians. His curiosity and knack for learning how things worked is what made him a jack of all trades. Even when his body would no longer allow him to do the work he loved, he would teach and mentor new generations of up and coming electricians. This led him to become a well-known instructor at Atlanta Metropolitan Technical College, where he taught and mentored many students for more than 12 years. Because of his passion and dedication, he was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2014.
Campbell loved life, and it’s mysteries as a self-proclaimed history buff. He would read and research for countless hours. He studied theology, african history, computers, and Native American Indian culture. He also enjoyed good food, listening to jazz, fishing, playing and teaching the game of chess to people of all ages, especially children. Campbell was most proud to become a M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Michigan and Georgia Free and Accepted Mason.
Maurice Campbell had a giving heart and is survived by his loving, devoted wife, best friend and soul mate of forty-two years, Mozelle Campbell; his children Jon Maurice (Sabrina) of Detroit, Gail Charise Campbell of Detroit, his loving bonus daughter and caregiver, Micole Mason of Atlanta, brother Willie Campbell Jr., his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, his sister-in-law, Linda, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his best friends and brothers in love Mr. Victor Wills, Mr. Will Rule, Mr. Greg Johnson and Mr. Sam Goss.
Reflections:
God saw you were getting weary so He did what He thought best, He came and stood beside you and whispered, “Come and rest.” You bade no one a last farewell, not even a goodbye; you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why.
God saw the road was getting rough the hill was hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, “Peace be thine.” The weary hours the days of pain, the sleepless nights are passed; the ever patient worn-out frame has found sweet rest at last.
