Paul retired from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles where he worked for many years in Labor Relations. He had a natural talent for helping others in conflict and solved countless issues between Union members and Management through mediation and behind the scenes talks.
Paul was a very talented man who enjoyed working with his hands. He had a love of woodworking and even had his own business, ‘Just Plane Paul’, where he sold woodworking tools. He was also an avid problem solver and everywhere they lived people sought Paul out to help them find solutions to various problems. When he could not be found in the garage or workshop Paul was frequently at a neighbor’s house helping them.
Paul loved to go boating and fishing. He owned several boats throughout his life and enjoyed fishing in New York, Canada, Florida, and off the coast of Massachusetts. He enjoyed teaching his granddaughters to fish on his most recent boat.
He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in New York, Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts, where he volunteered in several capacities including promoting boating safety. He also served in various roles during his time including Flotilla Commander, Instructor, Boat Crewman, and Vessel Examiner.
Paul had a great love for British sports cars. He bought and restored at least 25 cars over the years. He did mechanical work, upholstery, and electrical work - practically everything vehicle related other than painting the car. He was a fan of MG’s, Austin Healey’s, Morgan’s, Alfa Romeo’s, Lancia’s, Jag’s, and BMW's. His Big Healey was probably his favorite. Paul and Charlotte enjoyed taking trips in the Big Healey, which they took to Conclaves (gatherings) in Canada, New England and Kentucky. They took it on fun other events around New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. They also enjoyed taking it on bigger trips to Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada.
In 2003, Paul retired to Port Charlotte, Florida. Later he and Charlotte decided to become full time residents of Dallas, Georgia to be closer to their family that they loved so dearly.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of almost 48 years, Charlotte Grenier of Dallas, Georgia; daughter, Amy Grenier Gepfert and granddaughters, Sophie and Lucy all of Acworth, Georgia; sister, Claudette Cornell, a niece and 3 nephews all of Michigan.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Georgia. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park in Albany, NY.
