Phillip is survived by son Jake Roberson; father John Roberson and mother Charlotte Beauchef; brother John Roberson, Jr. and sister Peggy Roberson; partner Detra Posey.
Phillip was retired from the Atlanta Police Department where he had served for 25 years. He served as a community wrestling coach with Cherokee High School and enjoyed working out to stay fit. The following is courtesy John Hurst:
" On Tuesday, January 26th, Georgia Wrestling lost one of it's greats. Phillip James (Jamie) Roberson suddenly passed away. Jamie had retired from the Atlanta PD. Jamie was Dunwoody HS's and Coach Ed Winterstein's first Georgia State Wrestling Champion. Coming out of nowhere as a 98lb sophomore Jamie dominated his weight class, finishing undefeated and captured the 1976 State Title. Jamie's family then moved to California, where as a junior won California's State Championship (Open Division) for Huntington Beach HS. Jamie attended, on scholarship, and wrestled at Arizona State before eventually moving back to Atlanta and joining the Atlanta Police Department. He will be missed."
A visitation for Phillip will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Phillip to the American Heart Association, heart.org.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.winkenhoferpineridgefuneralhome.com for the Roberson family.
