Vesta Ann Hamby was born to Mitchell and Lula Stiles on October 26, 1926 in Murphy, NC. She was the oldest of 12 children which made her a strong and caring person. Vesta graduated high school in 1949 and not long after, she married her love of 60 years, David Rubin Hamby. After their marriage, David and Vesta moved to Cobb County Georgia where they started their family. Though Mrs. Hamby wasn't college educated she was extremely insistent on her children furthering their own education and knowing the principles of hard work. After retirement, The Hamby couple stayed busy and found themselves gardening and enjoying life.
Mrs. Hamby was very much a community mother as she was a charter member of Wildwood Baptist Church where her service will be held. So well-known amongst the youth, Vesta Hamby would round all the neighborhood children up for Vacation Bible School and Sunday School to encourage them to stay grounded in faith. When she wasn't nurturing the youngsters, Vesta could be found cooking, reading and tending her vegetable garden.
Vesta was such a lover of people that she often had extra faces at the holiday or Sunday dinner table and often sent them home with a plate, as this was just a part of her generous nature. Vesta was well known for sharing her wisdom and life stories. Vesta Hamby leaves behind a legacy of devotion to church, family and her community.
