Bill was born December 2, 1954 in Joliet, Illinois, to the late William and Theresa (nee Mikolic) Burns Jr.
Bill was a Vietnam Veteran and very proud to tell everyone he served in the United States Navy. He was equally as proud of his two sons, both of whom decided to follow in his footsteps and serve in the U.S. Navy. Shortly after his service to his country he met and married Mary Ford. Although Bill was not born in the south, he got there as fast as he could. A job opportunity took his young family from Joliet, Illinois to Acworth, Georgia. As the years passed, Bill was known to have the greenest and best striped yard in the neighborhood. Bill could often be found just hanging out by the pool, with the grill going and blasting music on the porch until the wee hours of the morning.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” L. Burns Jr and his mother, Theresa (nee Mikolic) Burns. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary (nee Ford) Burns; two sisters, Patricia (Bill) Pedersen and Nora (John) Primiano; two sons William IV “Billy” (Melinda) Burns and Matthew (Michelle) Burns; his four grandchildren, Samantha and William (Will) Burns V, Ethan and Elise Burns.
Services will be held on January 24, 2022 at 1100 at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church located at 1618 Ben King Rd, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144. Committal and interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery at 1500 (3:00 PM) located at 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia 30114.
