C.R. (Bob) Olson
April 30,1946 - June 13, 2013
With sadness in our hearts and relief where he went, we announce the passing of our Son, Dad, Brother, Uncle and Grampa Bob Olson.
He was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Kenora, Ontario on April 30, 1946 to Charlie and Margery.
Bob is predeceased by his dad Charlie (Snoose), mom Margery, wife Jennifer, Granny Olson and Gran Hockey.
Bob is survived by his mom Janice, sons’ Spencer (Cindy) and Gavin (Lisa), daughter Melanie, grandkids Emma, Joseph, Paige, Brandon and Calysta, brothers Brian (Donna) and Tony, sisters Brenda, Liz (Bill) and Hope (Louis), many friends, cousins, and special Auntie Fanny! Bob will be dearly missed.
Also left to mourn Bob’s loss and celebrate his life are long time friends Allan and Janice McDonald, Dan Grosenick, cousin Andy, more recently best friend Drew Defoort and many, many more people that appreciated Bob for all he was.
Bob grew up here in Kenora, spending lots of time in Locke Bay with many cousins and family at the Olson homestead. He moved back to England with his war bride mom, where he earned his mechanic ticket, and especially met the love of his life - Jennifer Murray. Work eventually brought him back to Canada in 1974. Dad was offered a job at Boise and the family decided to try Kenora out, which turned into a lifetime, with his 2 boys still in Kenora and his daughter now in Oakville. Once living here in “God’s Country” he and Jennifer couldn’t resist his love for the Winnipeg River. Being the outdoorsman that he was, he couldn’t wait for his next fishing excursion with the boys and cooking those fish up with a shore lunch for them and his family. Bob will always be a true River Rat!
Bob was always a great provider for his family; always a gentleman - respectful, giving, loving, happy and strong. In 1988 Bob survived a horrific accident leaving him with a severe brain injury. Seven brain surgeries later, we were still left with the most magnificent man; yes life changing but certainly not spirit changing. Dad always enjoyed his family, friends and helping others. He loved his kids’ hockey, fishing and especially his grandchildren. Many family suppers and card games will be different now that Bob/Dad/Grampa won’t be there.
Our family would like to thank the staff of CMHSS and Community Support for assisting Bob with every day life since his brain injury, as well as the nursing staff at Lake of the Woods District Hospital - 2E and I.C.U., Dr. Mandy Spencer, Dr. Brad Kyle and Dr. Cynthia for all efforts and care during the last 2 weeks of his life.
There will be a short and very informal service at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery Columbarium at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013. Please feel free to wear your jeans or shorts, denim or t-shirts and especially your baseball caps.
Flowers gratefully declined, however, donations to the Cancer Society or the Ontario Brain Injury Association would be appreciated.
Imagine living every day with a smile on your face,
Love in your heart and no judgement.
What a wonderful world it would be,
should we live by those morales.
Just like Bob did.
