August 3, 1924 - June 22, 2011
With his friend Daisy at his side, Ernest (Ernie) Louis Clark passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2011 at the age of 86.
He is survived by his brother Sam (Barb) of Sault Ste Marie, daughter-in-law Linda Clarke of Winnipeg, several nieces and nephews and good friend Daisy Groves of Kenora.
Predeceased by spouse Bertha, son Gregory, siblings Richard (Jake), Earl (Tooke) and Margaret Duguay.
Ernie served overseas in WWII with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada and was very proud of being able to serve his country at its time of need alongside brothers Jake, Sam and Tooke.
After the war, Ernie spent a few years working in Alaska on the DEW Line as a diesel mechanic. He moved back to Kenora and had his own trucking business for a while. He later worked as a mechanic for the City of Kenora and made many life long friends along the way.
He spent many long and enjoyable hours driving around the area and he had a keen interest in learning about local history. When he wasn't touring the countryside, Ernie also enjoyed many long hours tinkering with his "Junque' and found it gratifying to make something work again, against all odds, even if he had to jury-rig homemade pieces and parts.
Immediate cremation has taken place. Being a very quiet and private person, Ernie did not want anyone to fuss over him and, in accordance with his wishes, you are asked to remember him from his more jovial days on local golf courses, either playing golf or retrieving balls.
A family interment will occur at the Kenora Lake of the Woods Cemetery at a later date.
Most will remember Ernie for his sense of humour and his many (bad) jokes, and if any of his many friends and golfing buddies wish to remember him and his generous, quiet nature, they are asked to make a donation to a charity of their choice in his memory.
