November 3, 1927 - August 10, 2024
Evelyn Maude Makinen (nee Wade) passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Home for the Aged on Saturday, August 10th in her 97th year. She will be greatly missed by her son Gerald; her grandchildren Tiffany (Wayne), Bjorn (Tracey) and Chantry (Brandon); her great-grandchildren Aiden, Brooke, Erik, Ronan, Keira and Lynden; her daughter-in-law Bonita; her brother-in-law Roy Tietze; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Robert (2007), her son Lawrence (2022), and her parents and both sisters.
Evelyn loved her family, and never missed a birthday or a celebration. Every year, her grandchildren eagerly awaited the Christmas parcel that contained thoughtful gifts, BBQ chips, and a large container of her delicious homemade treats and cookies. She loved to cook and bake, and her family was grateful to be her taste-testers. She loved music and played the piano beautifully, often accompanying her husband, who played the accordion. She stayed active through golfing and curling into her early 80s. When she started slowing down, she took great joy in crocheting baby blankets, watching “her shows”, and never missing a Blue Jays game (she even received a letter from the Blue Jays in 2023 to thank her for being such a loyal fan!).
Evelyn’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers at Pinecrest for their compassionate care, and for the wonderful companionship, help and love from her niece Wendy Midgard, especially in her later years.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be much appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. As per Evelyn’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Kenora.
