1948 – 2022
With very heavy broken hearts, we the family announce the peaceful passing of Gerry, age 74, on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital after a brief illness.
Gerry was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 19th, 1948 to parents Ken and Winnifred. He was raised in Prescott, Ontario on the Beautiful St. Lawrence and left home at 17 to attend Lakehead University in Thunder Bay (Forestry). From 1966 to 1969, he worked as a summer student at Rushing River Provincial Park. He started full time employment with MNR in 1970, retiring in 1999 after 31 years of service.
Left to cherish his life and memory, are his wife of 50 plus years, Gabriele (Gaby), his brother Glenn and wife Lorna, their 3 children, Jessica (Derek Hunter), nephews Cade and Hudson, Evan (Emma) and Ken; his sister Judi (Neal), her daughter Sarah (Stan) and their baby Matteo. He is also survived by many cousins in Carberry, Manitoba.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, father and mother in law, and sister in law, Sylvia.
Over the years, he lovingly cared for many furry animals who deeply enriched his life. Gerry was the ultimate handy man, building our home at Longbow Lake. Travelling first with our 5th Wheel, we finally settled in Weslaco, Texas (Southern Comfort Resort) spending 18 winters. Gerry took up wood carving – so enjoyed his fellow carvers 3 times a week, he was a talented carver, giving many carvings to his friends!
Gerry loved travelling, cooking, Wing night at the Log, camping, boating, fishing, golfing, Bocci, concerts, music (country), reading, news, Skiing in B.C., beaches in Clearwater, Florida and South Padre Island, Texas! Although his time with us was cut short, he never complained, never gave up and stayed strong until the end!
He truly enjoyed life and the people he loved! Longtime friends in Vernon, Vancouver Island, Cold Lake, Winnipeg and Kenora. Our gentle kind soul will be missed by his family and friends, and especially his Southern Comfort (Texas) family.
Cremation has taken place, with a Private Celebration of Life to take place at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Wells family.
