John Hillis

John M.Foster Hillis at the age of 80, after a lengthy struggle with COPD.

Born in Burk Falls, Ontario October 21, 1935 died September 6, 2016.

John was predeceased by his parents Lila & Roy, Brother Dan, Sister Donna, Niece Terry and son Chris who died in a car accident.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Vicky, son Cody, eldest son Dan, step-sons Chris, Dean & Earl, numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and his special 'LITTLE PEANUT” our youngest granddaughter Brooke whom we call our miracle baby, unfortunately he never got to hold therefore we never got any pictures of them together because of his illness and the fact that she was so small and he was scared he would break her LOL honorable 'Mention of Tony, Lee and Ernest Smith who were very special to him.

John came to Kenora in 1957 to work for pipeline, car salesman, CPR and parts manager at Canadian Tire til he retired.

He was very active in the community and everyone knew John always a Jokester, there never was a dull moment with him.

He was a member of the Kenora Kinsmen many years ago. He was the Kinsmen of the year 1967-68. Coached Rebels Ladies fastball and were champs 3 years in a row.

He was an umpire for many years in baseball, coached 8 years in little league and started JR. baseball Boys and Girls, Coached minor hockey.

John was well known as John 'Foster' because of his radio days broadcasting play by play for Junior hockey, Senior's hockey, high school baseball games etc. He had the sports hot seat program all with CJRL, and was the announcer for charitable groups, Hospital, hockey games, senior citizens too many more to list.

John was very active in the community for over 35 years in sports in Kenora too many to list he founded the Lake of the Woods Sports Association in 1985 until he retired from it in April 2010. John started it and unfortunately ended it.

There will be a Celebration of John's life/birthday on October 22, 2016 at the Rideout Community Hall from 2:00 - 4:00pm.
