John (Jack) Sutherland
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John (Jack) Sutherland on May 11, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Jack was born to Ethel (Brusuin) and Hugh Sutherland on August 9, 1940. He leaves behind his two sons Robert and Jonathan (Gail), beloved granddaughter Kayla, his twin brothers Gary and Grant (Wendy) and nephews Curtis, Christopher, Aaron, Wade, Rodney and niece January and their families. Also many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends too numerous to mention. Jack was predeceased by his wife Joyce Marion (Pearson) on December 13, 2000, his father, Hugh Sutherland in 1971 and his mother Ethel in 1982.
Jack was a very busy man his whole life. He worked as a pulpwood cutter in his early days and worked for the Government as a fire ranger for a few years. In 1964 he started work at John Kron & Sons, then went on to drive truck for Kingsway Transports for over 25 years. He received the Million Miles award for truck driving in the late 1980’s. He also drove for Reimers, Gardewine, Atomic and TransX out of Winnipeg doing long haul all over North America for a few years. He also shunted trailers at the papermill part time until retirement in 2000 at the age of 60. He was a fine truck driver and friend. John was a “jack” of all trades: plumber, carpenter, welder, electrician, mechanic among other things. He built a home, garage and cottage with little help from anyone. He was always there to help no matter what the problem and never asked for anything in return. After retiring Jack did some fishing and he always liked long walks in the bush and loved the outdoors. He travelled from coast to coast twice to see Canada with special companion Deanna Sinclair.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.
The family would like to send a big thank you to Dr. Buzz Pedersen and staff for the care they gave John throughout his illness.
