1944 - 2011
It is with great sadness that I announce the sudden passing of my Dad, John James Lugossy on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Seleen, his wife and friend of 42 years Sylvia; brother Ed (Eileen) Lugossy and his family; niece Karen (David) Desjardins, Barclay; nephew Eddie (Lechun) Legossy, Amanda, Chantal and Josh; sister Georgina (Glen) Anderson and her family; niece Tracey (Greg) Sinclair, Jordan, Carsen; niece Crystal (Peter) Grande, Marco, Stefano, and Gabi; mother-in-law Margaret Heidinga; and his many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his mother Rona Lugossy-Jones, father John James Lugossy and his father-in-law John Heidinga.
My dad was always grateful for the love his sister Georgina gave him and his brother was very much a father figure. My dad was born in St. Catharines and moved to Kenora with his mom, brother, and sister when he was five years old. I don't think Kenora was ever the same. Dad had a mischievious nature. During his school days he used his History book as a parking brake for his car. He loved to fish and thought nothing of playing hooky.
Dad's love for the lake began when he worked for his brother at Northern Harbor and his carpentry skills were learned when he worked for his brother-in-law Glen in construction. He had a short career at CPR, but the
challenges of buying and selling excited him more. His love for motorcycles prompted him to start up his first business, The Cycle Shop. He quickly expanded and purchased Keewatin Hardware, branched out to The Convoy, Buck or Two, Sunset Gallery, and most recently the Canadian Tire Gas Bar.
Weekends would find my parents anchored in a quiet bay on Lake of the Woods, enjoying what dad called 'God's Country'. He had an unbelievable imagination, had a nickname for all of my friends, and would make us laugh with his drawn out stories. He loved to tease and play jokes on us and we loved every minute of it. Dad was a kid at heart who enjoyed life; I will miss him.
His love for travel took him to Las Vegas and he found great joy when he travelled to Thailand, hoping one day to retire there.
My family and I would like to invite you to help us celebrate my Dad's life at the Lakeside Inn Water Side Lounge on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
