Kenneth F. Heatherington Sr.
October 02, 1922 – September 24, 2016
Our family sadly announces the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend on Saturday, September 24, 2016. He fought the good fight and then slipped away peacefully at Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Dad served his country overseas during the second World War and considered it an honour to do so. He rarely spoke about the war but was always very emotional when he did. He and Mom raised a family of five children, which was a struggle at times but they got-er-done. Dad was very happy and proud to have found sobriety in 1972 and tried to live his life according to the “Big Book” and the twelve steps. Dad would often say “Life can be complicated but try to keep it simple.”
To that end we “WILL’ keep it simple so cremation has taken place and our family will hold a private, final farewell at a later date.
We would like to express our gratitude to Dad’s caregivers, Dr. Buzz Pederson, Dr. Cho, the staff at C.C.A.C., D.V.A., and the supportive housing at Benedickson Court and Laurette Warner, Dad’s good friend and neighbour who was always there for him.
The entire staff at our Kenora hospital are truly angels. They treated Dad with love, respect and the finest care one could imagine. His words probably still echo through the halls “All I need is a warm blanket and a two bagger.” Bless you all.
Flowers gratefuly declined, donations to the Kenora Dragon Tamers deeply appreciated.
God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the
Things I can and the
Wisdom to know the difference.
