Kii-shi-ba-a-zhiik – of the Nime Clan (Sturgeon)

January 21, 1941 – June 9, 2014

Our mother, niece, auntie, dear friend, and Kokum; with her family by her side, Laura peacefully left to the Spirit world on June 9, 2014 at the age of 73.

She was predeceased by her parents Billy Bird and Theresa White. Her brothers Clifford and William Bird, her granddaughter Autumn Bird.

Laura leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children; Ramona Lee (Douglas Lee), Corey Bird (Cheryl Bird), Valerie Bird, and Melanie Copenace (Herb Greene). Her pride and joy, her grandchildren; Jordan, Aaron Lee, Chaz, Chase Bird, Cleveland, Sharnell, Shanayah, Tyra, Jersey, Nevada Bird, Bryton Copenace, Tanisha Redsky, Aden, Cedar and Priden Copenace Redsky. As well as her sister Elizabeth Bird, her maternal aunties Catherine Crow and Mary Copenace.

She will be forever remembered by her dearest friends and relatives; Lulubelle Kabestra, Liz Noel, Hilda Major, Rose Gardner, Louie Morrison and many other friends who made her laugh too numerous to mention.

Laura took great pride in her culture, she was a beautiful jingle dress dancer, who would eagerly pack up to attend various pow-wows around North America. She dedicated her life to a career in social work.

Special thanks to the LWDH Dialysis team, ICU nurses at London University Hospital, Naotkamegwanning Health Services, Naotkamegwanning Chief and Council for all the compassionate care and support they have given.

A Wake Service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Health Services Healing Room in Naotkamegwanning. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Healing Room starting at 11:00 am with Elder Peter White officiating the traditional services. Laura will laid to rest beside her brother William Bird and nephew Howie Copenace Jr.
