We are sad to say our sister, mother, grandmother and great grandma – Madeline Skead “Ojiinse” has begun her journey to join our ancestors.
She was predeceased by her father Art Skead, brothers James and Charles Skead, her son Evan Wetelainen (Skead), paternal grandparents Charles and Charlotte Skead, maternal grandparents Alfred and Rosa Kakeeway, uncles Alex, Clifford and Bill Skead, aunts Cecilia Jack, May Joseph, Eliz, Nick and Julia Skead.
She is survived by her mom Clara Skead, her partner Stewart Weston of Thunder Bay, her children Nikki Kakegumick (Gary) and family, Everette Skead and family, Sha Sha Skead (John) and family, her siblings Ruth (Larry) and family, Charlotte (Maynard) and family, Art (Doreen) and family, Joe (Diane) and family, James, Marie and family and our oldest sister Sally and family. She’ll be lovingly missed by all of her siblings, children and relatives.
She will be missed by many numerous family members and cousins, relatives from the Skead, Kakeeway and Seymour families, too numerous to mention, especially Auntie Janette.
Madeline(Ojiinse) was a residential and 60’s scoop survivor. She had longed to reconnect with her children Nikki, Everette and Sha Sha. Unfortunately, due to the loss of her son Evan, she did not get the opportunity to know him the way she wanted too.
All of her adult years she struggled with her Mental Illness, that would come and go, but still she picked herself up and would start again. She was our “Ojiinse”, our strength and strong hold, she gave us faith to go on as she kept us on our toes. Miija – Pahmah-minah wah- jimance- Kizagigoo aapichi.
She loved her children whether she was near or far, always thought of her family. She made appoint of phoning everyone including family and friends here at home in Wauzhushk Onigum to make sure everyone was OK, recognizing any and all of her relatives. She loved everyone and everyone loved her, even when she was annoying but always in a good way. Chi Migwech to all who knew her and loved her.
A very special thanks to her favorite nurse, Melissa at Emerg at Thunder Bay regional Health Science Centre, they all loved her too.
