September 21, 1936 - January 19, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Donna Holmi on Friday January 19th at the Kenora District Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by husband Fred, mother Trudy Pulford, father Ray Kruger and brother Mervin Kruger.
Donna will be greatly missed and is survived by her sister Elizabeth Greksa, daughters Susan Rooney (Barry), Sharon Drysdale and Dianne Anderson (Willie), grandchildren Kelsey Connor, Meghan Connor, Sarah Huntus and Colton Rooney. Great granddaughter Arianna Huntus was Donna’s joy.
Donna was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1936 living in surrounding towns, her favourite being in Strathclair on the farm before moving to Kenora at age 16. Donna worked at Fosters florists, Sally Shops, Pitts, McTaggarts, Kee West Motel and as a care aide for the Red Cross. She married Fred in 1956, they started a family and settled into their home in Norman where they raised three daughters. After 25 years in Norman they followed their dream to live on the water and moved out to a beautiful piece of property on the Winnipeg River. numerous evenings were spent around the campfire sharing stories and laughter. They then moved to Mellick avenue and finally settled into Benedickson court where she will be missed friends and staff.
Donna had a passion for gardening, flower beds surrounded the home and she loved preserving from her vegetable garden. Volunteering was also an important part of Donna’s life, being a Brownie leader, Tawny Owl in Norman, teaching Sunday School at the Knox United Church where she also was a member of the UCW Donna club which helped raised funds for the church. Donna loved ceramics classes and being a member of The Red Hat Society. Grandma Donna enjoyed her visits to Winnipeg for her much loved gazebo time at Susans and at Dianne's as well her pool time in Medicine Hat at Sharons.
We would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and student nurses in the 3rd floor medical surgical unit at the Lake of the Woods General Hospital for their kind and caring treatment of our mother. Thank you to the assisted living staff at Benedickson Court for their kindness and caring of our mother.
A short service will be held in the Kenora cemetery followed by a celebration of life in the spring. Details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made the Canadian Alzheimer’s society.
