Margaret Paterson 'Pat' Young

Pat’s family and Church family announce the death of Pat Young, a life-long resident of Kenora, on March 13, 2014. Pat was born April 23, 1914, in the Young family home on Matheson St. North and she died at Pinecrest Home.

Having lived to 99 Pat outlived most of her family and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents, early Rat Portage residents Mabel Ann Creighton and Robert Andrew Young; older brother Robert Creighton (Tate) Young; sister-in-law-Bernice; family members from the Frank Gardner and G. M. Rioch families. She is survived by cousin Peggy (Margaret K. Creighton) Beach, husband Robert (deceased), their four daughters and their families.

Pat was a career woman. Following high school, she graduated from the Kenora Business College and then worked for 38 years as Secretary with the Department of Mines and then the Forestry Branch of the Provincial Government (now MNR). She enjoyed her work and all the people she met.

Pat lived an active life. She was a member of the Knox United Church and a charter member of the Knox Donna Club where she made life-long friends. In her retirement, she enjoyed travels in Canada and in England and Scotland.

Pat loved her Kenora homes: her childhood home on Matheson St.; her River St. home and Benedickson Court where she looked out over the lake.

Pat loved music. She was a member of the first G Clef Choir under the direction of Jessie Cameron and a member of her Church Choir. In her early years, she loved ‘camp’ on Coney Island and in her later years, she enjoyed tea or lunch ‘out with the girls’.

Pat remembered with fondness ‘the simple years’ and marveled at all the changes she saw during her long life.

A Service of Worship to remember and honour Pat’s life will be held at Knox United Church on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm.
