Mike passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday September 12th at the age of 59 yrs.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda of 32 years and daughter Savanna (Josh) of Thunder Bay; his brother Scott (Linda) and sister-in-law Carol Rose of Kenora and also nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Berk and Edna; his infant brother Andrew; his father and mother-in-law Roy and Agnes (Nancy) Hudec; brothers-in-law Wes Rose and Mike Hudec and sister-in-law Roseanne Hudec.
Mike was born in Kenora ON, grew up there, attended Beaver Brae Secondary School and graduated with his GED later on. He received his AZ license and was a trucker for most of his adult life. He was employed as one in Thunder Bay at the time of his passing.
Mike enjoyed a variety of activities during his life. Camping, hunting, fishing and a number of sports. He also enjoyed coaching his daughter Savanna in soccer.
A service of thanksgiving for the life of Michael Douglas Newman will be held at St. Alban’s Cathedral on October 24, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Lee Domenick officiating. Interment will follow the service.
The family would like to thank the intensive care team at the Thunder Bay Hospital for their care and support as well as Bruno and the staff at Bruno’s contracting for their care and kindness.
Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends so desire, donations to St. Alban’s Cathedral or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
