Michael Francis Shier

With great sadness we have to announce the sudden passing of Michael Francis Shier, a lifetime resident of Kenora, Ontario, on August 06, 2012 at the age of 50 years.

He is lovingly remembered by his brother Brian, wife Lorraine Shier, along with their daughter Angela McMillan, her husband Duncan and their daughter Alley, brother Martin Shier and wife Penny, daughters Brooke and Lauren, sister Tracy Shier, son Cashton Shier and stepmother Flora Shier.

He was predeceased by his parents Morris and Gladys Shier.

Michael was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1962 and was a life long resident. He attended Beaver Brae Secondary School, later working at Tri Lake Timber then moved on to a career with the CPR where he began as a brakeman at the age of 17 and functioned for many years as a locomotive engineer.

Michael enjoyed travelling abroad-among his favourite destinations were Mexico (coastal regions) and Egypt. Being an avid sailor, Michael was a member of the Royal Kenora Yacht Club and truly enjoyed spending his time on Lake of the Woods. A man of many talents and interests he was a naturally gifted artist, painter, sculpter and musician.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre with Pastor Newell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation.
