October 8, 1942 - September 20, 2025
After living with dementia for the last several years, Nettie passed away at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on Saturday September 20th, surrounded by family.
Nettie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Charlotte and Bob (Shawn), Grandsons Andrew (Ashley), Jacob (Kelsee), sisters Helen, Tilley, and brother Harry, as well as brother-in- law Lorne (Mildred) and sister-in-law Dianne. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Tom, parents Klym and Nellie Deczycia, brothers Charlie, Matt, Bill, Alex, his wife Elsie, Mike, his wife Betty, Steve, Walter, his wife Agnes, Peter, and sister Mary.
Nettie was born in Gilbert Plains Manitoba, youngest of thirteen siblings This is where she met her life partner Tom in 1965 when he came to work at the bank. They married in August of 1966.
After several moves with the bank, they made their final stop in Kenora in 1975 to raise their family. Many summers were spent at their camp in Sioux Narrows where they built lasting relationships with life-long friends. Many hours were spent sharing fishing and boating stories over a cup of tea. In her younger years, Nettie enjoyed cross-country skiing, curling and bowling. Many might remember Nettie from her working years at the Blue Heron.
What Nettie enjoyed most was spending time with family. Family meals were her defining moment. Her table was meticulously set, overflowing with copious amounts of delicious food that was made and shared with love. Each family member was encouraged to “just clean it up” so there would be fewer leftovers to be put away.
Her greatest joy came with the arrival of grandsons Andrew and Jacob. She and Tom were always found rinkside or at the football field cheering them on. Nettie often made special “Andrew” and “Jacob” cookies that no one else was allowed to eat.
After spending the last 10 months with them day in and day out, our family would like to send a special thank you to the Nurses and staff on 2nd East. Their kind loving care was deeply appreciated. Nettie was also fortunate to have had wonderful support and care from two amazing individuals, Cindy and Honor.
In lieu of flowers or donations, our family would ask that you take some time to make some memories and share a meal with your family. Remember to “just clean it up”.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
