Peacefully, with his family by his side, Nick Seniw, a resident of Pinecrest Home for the Aged, passed away on January 28, 2011 at the age of 84.
He is survived by his loving wife Olive of 61 years, daughters Helen (Rick Collinson predeceased) Darcie, Darren & Louanne, great grandsons, Ricky & Marcus; Lynn Seniw (Arp); Shelley (Ward Sherrington) Nicole & Nick, Conner; Leah (Sam Posteraro ) Danielle & Bryan, Matthew; Pauli (Dave Bongfeldt) Ashlee, Bryce, Christine, Danika; and son Dan (Jan) Kailee, Bradin as well as sister and brother in laws, Andre, Kaye, Audrey, Stu, Hank, Florence and Sophie, many nieces, nephews, and several grandogs.
He was predeceased by his father Paul and mother Maria, two infant twin sisters, brothers, Peter and Bill also 23 brother and sister in-laws.
Nick was born in Brody, West Ukraine May 17, 1926 and immigrated to Canada with his parents at the age of 9. In the early years, he joined the army, worked for the CPR, built numerous houses, logged with his team of horses and worked at the Kenora paper mill for 43 years including several years as the mill fire chief. Nick enjoyed & lived life to the fullest.
Dad passed his strong family values & work ethics on to each and everyone of us. He taught us to never give up, “where there’s a will there’s a way”. He had a passion for the outdoors and spent many happy hours either fishing, picking blueberries or just cruising the lake which he considered his piece of paradise. He also loved to travel with Olive by his side. They would pack up the car, fifth wheel or camper and take off for another adventure. They particularly enjoyed visiting family across Canada, including several years wintering in Florida and Arizona. Dad could never sit still for long, and always enjoyed the challenge of a new carpentry project. He lovingly built his camp, which later became their home on Lake of the Woods. Once that was complete he built beautiful rock walls to landscape the property. All the rocks were hand-picked by Nick, Olive and kids. He was a strong but gentle person who always lovingly cared about his family. He always maintained a good sense of humour and positive attitude. Nick was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play a good game of cards and there was nothing better than trying to beat him at a game of cribbage or rummy.
Prayers will be held Friday, February 4 , 2011 at 7:00 pm at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Funeral service will follow on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Church as well.
