TED MALUISH
It is with sadness the family of Ted Maluish announce his passing on March 29, 2011.
Ted was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a lifelong resident of Kenora, a retired businessman and a War Veteran. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1940 and trained in St. Thomas, Ontario and Yorkton, Saskatchewan, for duty as an airframe mechanic. He was deployed overseas to England where he worked on Lancasters then to Belgium with the Spitfire Squadron. His last posting was Fassberg, Germany near the end of the war. Due to demobilization in 1945, Ted was honourally discharged with the rank of Leading Aircraftsman.
Ted’s early education was at Central School, Lakewood High and after the war University of Toronto (chemical engineering) after which he was employed with the North Star Shell Oil Company as their bulk sales manager in Kenora. He also owned and operated Ted’s Shell marina and later, in his business career became a Real estate Broker specializing in Lake of the Woods recreational property. Many cottagers will remember him cruising the lake in his red boat with 4 legged buddy “Tiger” perched at the front of the boat.
Ted had a lifelong passion for books and reading and spent many hours browsing the Kenora Library shelves for a good book. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and was an active member of the earlier Kenora Golf and Country Club. Over the years Ted was an active participant in Community projects and affairs.
Ted was a wonderful, caring husband and a devoted father who nurtured, encouraged and supported his two daughters with loving pride. His easy going disposition won him many friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife Ruth, daughters Nancy (Stan) Hnatiuk ad their children Garrett and Laura, Winnipeg, Man., also daughter Susan (Arthur) Herbacz and their children Ian and Leah, Fort McMurray, Alberta. We loved him because he was kind and giving. We admired him because he was never envious or unforgiving, and we will remember him for always seeing the positive side of life.
It was Ted’s wish to be cremated and there be no funeral service. Interment will be held at a later date at a private family service. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in memory of Ted to Pinecrest Home Community Support Services, 1220 Valley Drive, Kenora, Ontario P9N 2W7
