Phyllis Doreen Panek (Blake) nee Moore
With great love and heavy hearts we sadly announce that Phyllis lost her battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully January 1, 2013.
Phyllis was born March 31, 1939. She was born in Neepawa, MB, she resided in Birnie, MB till 1956. She made Kenora her home at 17 years of age. She started her employment at the Salisbury House Restaurant where she met her first husband Terry Blake. A family soon grew to include her two sons Dean and Kevin Blake. She continued to work hard raising her two children and working in various businesses in Kenora such as Consumer Frosted Foods, Safeway, Skyline Store and Alkaye’s Store. So many families relied on Phyllis as a Nanny to keep a watchful eye on their children. She always loved having children in her home, it was an important part of who she was. Phyllis lost her first husband Terry in 1977. She remarried in 1983 to Walter Charles Panek.
Phyllis was predeceased by her father Hugh, husband Terry, sisters Shirley and Audrey, mother Gladys, second husband Walter, her cousin Wilfred. She is survived by her brother Orville, sister Linda (Mickey), her sons Dean, Kevin (Sherry), grandchildren Kaelyn and Daniel and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless dear and precious friends.
Her family and friends had a special place in her heart. She was very close to her Moore cousins here in Kenora of whom she stayed with when she first came to Kenora. Family and friends were her support system through the loss of her first husband Terry, the loss of her second husband Walter as well during the 2 ½ year battle with cancer. Phyllis always had a special place in her heart for her family. She was devoted to her boys Dean and Kevin and her grandchildren.
Phyllis loved her bowling, especially going out for lunch or tea with the bowling league ladies. She looked forward to her time with her friends as this brought great joy into her life. Phyllis spent many hours on the water fishing and boating as well as partridge hunting with her family. Phyllis would always talk about her famous road trips… as she explained it was just for some coffee; it was the drive she always enjoyed. Having grandchildren around her always lifted her spirits and brought so much joy into her life.
The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the Chemotherapy Nurses who always kept our mom so comfortable and spirits high. A thank you also goes out to the nurses and staff on 3 E at LWDH for their care and support during Mom’s last few days. Cremation has taken place and an outdoor cemetery service will be held on Monday January 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Lake of the Woods Cemetery, Kenora.
