June 12, 1931 - March 28, 2018
The family of Robert (Bob) Burke sadly announce his passing on March 28, 2018 in Kenora, Ontario, after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Muriel, several brothers and sisters and his son-in-law, Jerry.
He is survived by one brother, Roy (Bud) and daughters Debbie (Late Jerry), Sharon (Ernie) Hagedorn, Gail MacGillis and Roberta (John) Daley, granddaughter Jennifer (Ian) Thompson, grandsons Dale, Jared Olson and Corey (Krystie) MacGillis and great grandchildren Connor, Skye, Laine and Ethan.
Bob was born and grew up in Minahico, Rainy River District, and later helped his brothers run a family owned fishing resort in Lac Seul for a few years. From there he and Muriel moved to a bush camp on the Jones Road and worked for Mando/Boise as a heavy equipment operator. In 1967 the family moved into Kenora, where he continued to work as a truck driver/trainer for 25 plus years. The later part of his career he worked in the maintenance department at the Kenora Jail until he retired.
In his earlier years Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping around the Lake of the Woods District. He loved to tease and play cards with his grandchildren. When family, grandchildren and friends gathered, he would play his guitar and sing country tunes of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and others; always ending with the favourite "Burke's Lac Seul Camp", a song he and his brothers made of their camp days.
Upon retirement his main enjoyment was camping in his RV with his wife and family.
He enjoyed a long, happy life and remained in his home to the end with the support of his family.
A small family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
