Jan 9, 1928 - Aug 22, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grand-mother, Stella Queen.
She will be greatly missed by her two sons, Gregory and Douglas (Inna) and her two daughters, Linda and Ruth; six grandchildren Abilayne, Eden, Ashley, Ryan, Kyle, Shanyn and three great grand-children Charlie, Carson and Jackson.
Stella was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Richard Queen on October 6, 2006.
Stella was born and raised in Tyndall, Manitoba where she met her future husband Richard. They were married in 1947 subsequently moved to Kenora in 1952.
Stella nurtured wonderful floral and vegetable gardens while being a busy homemaker. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed outdoor activities with her family such as berry picking and fishing at Black Sturgeon, Lake of the Woods, Winnipeg River and at many of the trout lakes.
After the children completed high school, Stella decided to take the RNA programme and excelled
through the programme's courses. She was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed articles on
medical topics. If she wasn't reading, you could find Stella painting many of the landscapes around Kenora.
In midlife, Stella was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and spent ten years fighting through many operations and treatments. Finally a doctor in Winnipeg was able to make her condition stable. It was not until 2019 did she seek medical treatment again and this was for Macular Degeneration. The treatment resulted in an eye infection and total blindness. At the age of 91 she faced the loss of her independence except her daughter Ruth came to her aid. Ruth moved in with mom and became her 24 hour caregiver for the next two years and three months.
With Covid, Ruth had little help but did the impossible and cared for her 24/7. Stella was taken to the
Kenora Hospital for a wellness check in July, 2021 where she was determined to be in good health.
However, she broke her hip while in the hospital and a month later lost her final fight.
A family gathering to celebrate her life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Stella's memory.
