Theresa Smith

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 59 years, Harry, son Bob (Lainie and her children Darbey and Gavin Carlson), and her three loving grandchildren Raegan (Jon), Samantha, and Brock. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Lindquist, and Mary Jane Orvis, as well as sisters-in-law Gwen (Ted) Arnold and Eleanor (Don) Nuttall and brothers-in-law Keith (Joan) Smith, Remie Brandt and Don Warkentin, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is predeceased by her children Angela, Ronald, and Carl, her parents Arthur and Marie Elders, sisters Louise Hagen, Helen Brandt, and Cecilia Warkentin, brothers John and Robert Elders.

Theresa was born in Whitefish Bay and grew up in Sioux Narrows. She and Harry met while she was working as a waitress at Ken’s café in Kenora in 1954.

Theresa spent the majority of her years as a homemaker, taking care of her children and later, her grandchildren. She loved being involved in the community, whether through her volunteer work as an active member of the Kenora Legion, or spending time helping with the elderly homes in Kenora as well. Theresa loved camping and fishing, and in their younger years, usually had their car packed and ready to head out camping for when Harry got home from work on Fridays. This past May was her last fishing trip, a wonderful day she enjoyed with Bob, while out-fishing him 14 – 3. Her favourite pastime was playing cards of all sorts with her friends at the Legion. Theresa was the bones of her family and a truly selfless woman. She was ready and willing to help anybody whenever they needed it. She was at her happiest when hosting family gatherings and taking care of her loved ones. Her family was her heart and soul.

Theresa is going to be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She has asked to be cremated, and she wished for no service to be held. A small graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
