Vicki Carol Samson
May 30, 1955 – January 5, 2026
After a lengthy illness, Vicki peacefully and gracefully passed away at her home surrounded by family and friends.
Vicki will be dearly missed by her greatest joys, her sons Donovan Metail (Ammi) and Jason Metail, as well as her beloved grandson, Avery Larkin. Also left to mourn her absence are her two sisters, Shirley and Sharon Samson; her niece Charlotte Brown (Shawn) and nephews Lucas and Austin; her uncle, Joe Delorme, and his sons David and Mark; close family friend, Bill Fraser; and her dearest friends, Jan, Sue, Judy, Denise, Michele, Karen, Joanne, Craig, Honor and Gary.
Vicki was a lady who epitomized the meaning of grace, of courage, and of beauty. It was these qualities that made everyone who met her want to be blessed by her presence. Her infectious laugh and genuine caring of others will be missed by everyone who knew her. She truly was a person who listened intently and gave unconditionally to everyone around her.
The family would sincerely like to thank the following people for their devotion and care of Vicki: Homecare Nurses Susan, Merlice, Merline and Eldin; Melanie Parent MNO; Palliative Care NP Mike Limerick; Kenora Chemotherapy Nurses Stephanie, Tina, Dava, Kathryn, and Halley; Dr. Josee Cosentino and Dr. Laurel Snyder of Kenora; and her Thunder Bay Medical Team of Dr. Del Paggio, Dr. Simpson, Dr. Kerr, and Dr. Ward.
A very special and heartfelt thank you to Jason and Shirley for their continued compassion and care in looking after Vicki in her final weeks.
As per Vicki’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, please donate to It’s A Dog’s Life, Kenora, Ontario.
A celebration of Vicki’s life will be held on her birthday, May 30th, 2026. Details to follow for everyone wishing to attend.
You can shed tears that she is gone,
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
