Winnifred Lund

Winnifred Evelyn Lund, a resident of Pinecrest Nursing Home, passed away at her residence on January 9, 2018.

She was born on May 6, 1929 in Kenora, Ontario.

Winnifred was predeceased by her father James Borton, mother Stella Borton, brother Don Borton, husband Elof Lund, daughter Susan Murphy and son in law Tim Murphy.

She is survived by Doug Lund “Donna”, Ken Lund “Karen Howard” and Mark Lund, also survived by granddaughter Randi McVety and Joe, great grandson Cole McVety, grandson Willy Murphy, granddaughter Sherry Pecore “Mark”, great grandchildren McKenzie, Lily and Riley Pecore, grand-children Andrea Howard, Stacey and Scott, great granddaughter Emery who always made GiGi smile, grandson Shayne Lund and granddaughter Carlie Lund.

Winnie worked for many years at all the Kenora hospitals as a Nurse, Head Nurse and eventually as Discharge Planning Nurse when she retired.

She was the founder of Winnie’s Boutique at the hospital, in latter years she called Pinecrest Home and took it upon herself to look after the garden in Unit 3 ‘Sweeping, Raking and Cleaning’ from spring to late fall. This past summer she was recognized for her efforts winning a plaque for Best Garden in Kenora, this garden will now be forever known as Winnie’s garden.

She loved being out in the garden and spent 8 to 12 hours a day out there. Sometimes we would hear about how much work it was but she was always out there doing it. She “loved it” and it gave her purpose.

The family would like to thank Pinecrest Home for the Aged for the care Mom received. A special thanks to Dr. Mike for his care and compassion and for listening to Mom. Thank you to Alana and Michelle for going above and beyond in Mom’s last days.

Thank you to Melissa in activation for keeping Mom involved in all her activities, you’re a special person Mom really liked.

Special thanks to all the residents at Pinecrest, Mom enjoyed your company “ You all know who you are.”

Mom tried to stay as long as she could but has had to move on to help out in Heaven.

Rest in Peace Momma we love you. Till we meet again.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Nursing Home.
