

Donald D. McCombs, 74, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynda Parson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Kimball Cemetery. The services have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
Donald Dwight McCombs was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 20, 1937, the son of Raymond and Dale (Thompson) McCombs. He moved to Greeley, Colorado with his family. He attended high school in Greeley and graduated in 1955. Don enlisted in the US Army on June 4, 1955 and honorably served his country until his discharge on May 31, 1963. He moved to Pueblo, Colorado and studied diesel mechanics. He worked for Ellis and Cap in Greeley. He met Barbara Metzger and they were married on August 31, 1963. He studied at the University of Northern Colorado and received his teaching degree in 1970 and moved to Kimball where he was the auto mechanics instructor for 39 years, he retired in 2010. Don was passionate about teaching, Kimball High School and the kids. He made a lasting impression on all of the students. Don loved the rail road and was a member of a model train club. He served on the Farmers Day Committee and Teachers Association. He loved the Democratic Party and studying history. He will be missed by the faculty, staff and student of Kimball High School.
Survivors include son David McCombs of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters Michelle (Jeff) Burleson of Ft. Collins, CO and Jennifer (Ted) Ray of Loveland, CO; uncle Alden (Gwen) Minor; grandchildren Ashley and Maysen McCombs, Brook and Parker Burleson. His parents preceded him in death.
