Steve was born in the spring of 1952 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to Oscar F. and Vivian L. (Hutchinson) Diemoz. He grew up along the Roaring Fork River at the family ranch outside Basalt, a place that shaped his character and work ethic. The ranch had been in the family since 1901, first purchased by his Aosta, Italy–immigrant grandparents, Marie and Clement.
Steve loved ranch life throughout his youth. He graduated from Basalt High School, where he played basketball and was part of the first team in school history to reach the state tournament.
As a young man, Steve worked various jobs throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and spent time working in the oil fields. That path eventually led him to Nebraska, where he became a devoted “Go Big Red” fan. While living in Kimball, he met Dianne Allison. They married and later divorced, and together welcomed and raised two children, Anna Marie Diemoz and Christopher Michael Diemoz.
In Kimball, Steve served on the school board and was a proud school bus driver for more than 25 years, he also served on the Clean Harbors, and ESU 13 boards along with several others, and served as a Deacon for the New Hope Assembly of God Church. He also started and ran his own landscaping business, mowing lawns and meticulously caring for his “ladies.”
In 2014, Steve married Debra Diemoz at their home, surrounded by friends and family. Through this marriage, Steve became a beloved stepfather to seven more children. He will always be remembered for his friendliness, his gift for storytelling, his love for sports. Steve was passionate about his beliefs and enjoyed spirited conversation about current events. You would often find him getting coffee with his friends, watching a game, or catching up on latest news. Above all, he was a devout child of God.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar, and Vivian; his sister Judy; and his granddaughter Charlee.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Debra Diemoz; his sister Janice (Leroy) Duroux of Basalt, CO; his daughter Anna of Hoschton, GA; his son Christopher (Stacey) Diemoz; his stepchildren Misty (Brian) Gustin, Clifford Coyle, Laura Johnson, Cody (Kyra) Coyle, Cassandra Coyle, Marisa Sullivan, and Sadie Arnold; and his grandchildren Owen, Anslee Jae, Easton, Courtney, Riley, Cliffy, Raven, Matthew, Shaylynn, Javon, Trevon, Collin, Braya, and Wrenley. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
