Barry Shayne Arsenault

Barry Arsenault, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on November 12, 2019. Barry was born on May 15, 1952 to Marie Arsenault. He attended school at Hannah, Kingsley, and Traverse City. Barry married Pamela Crouch on July 8, 1972 on her family's farm in Traverse City, Michigan. Barry enlisted in the US Army in 1972 where he served our country for 3 years before moving back home to Northern Michigan to (appease) his homesick bride. They remained in Northern Michigan where they raised a family in the tightknit community in downtown Kingsley, MI. Barry could be described as a man who could fix anything and one who would help anyone, anytime of day. If someone needed him, he would drop what he was doing and be there. Barry was very active and was almost always "busy" whether it be rebuilding a boat motor, sharpening the blades on a lawnmower or tinkering with his newest drone. In his younger years he was and avid scuba diver and hang glider and could be found looking for treasure or jumping of cliffs along the shores of Lake Michigan. More recently, he enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, drinking coffee and engaging in lengthy debates about almost any topic. Barry was a member of the Kingsley Area Schools, Board of Directors for many years. In his time on the Board he never took a stipend, and instead, donated it to the Kingsley Band Boosters, which he and his wife, supported for many years. Barry drove for Northern Stainless for many years and finished his career running mail for the USPS. He could put a semi trailer anywhere it could fit and he drove over a million miles without an accident. Barry is survived by his mother, Marie Arsenault, his wife of 47 years, Pam, son, Shayne Arsenault, daughter, Crystal Thomas, two grandchildren, Elloise and Milo Thomas, his beloved schnauzer, Peanut and many friends and family members. Barry was preceded in death by his brother, Kim Arsenault. In honoring Barry's wishes, he is to be cremated and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Kingsley Band Boosters. Arrangements entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home of Kingsley.

I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Barry. He would occasionally stop in my office to visit when I worked in Kingsley.
I enjoyed every minute of our conversations. He was one of a kind.
When I retired he gave me a trucker's atlas and a lighted magnifying glass to use while traveling and, they have been put to great use.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.

I knew Barry when I was the Kingsley High School principal from 93-99. Barry's passion for all things Kingsley was evident and powerful, as was his support for the school and students. Whether we agreed or disagreed, I never doubted that his intentions were the best because he so clearly cared about others. He was a good and generous man.

I first met Barry when he was a school board member. To say the least, when it came to school, Barry was very fiscal mided. Although we sometimes disagreed in school matters the mutual respect we had for each other was very evident. One of my favorite memories was after a heated board meeting (I was of course asking for money for my program) in which I was denied funds, Barry caught me after the meeting in the parking lot and he took the time to explain why he was not able to support my request. We spent about and hour in that parking lot and both of us went away with a deep respect for each other. Barry was a strong proponent for my program and rarely missed a concert or event. He was a fine man who loved his school and community. Thank you, Barry for your honesty, kindness, community service and friendship

Barry and Pam were so wonderful to everyone when they owned the pizza place downtown Kingsley! We would walk there after school and Barry was always welcoming and kind (even though we were wild teenagers at the time). Nothing but fond memories of him. Truly a good man to the core of his being.
