Carol G. Sheets

Carol was born on August 19, 1921 at her family home in Grant Township, the daughter of Carlton and Dorothy (Bigger) Stevens. She graduated from Buckley Community School and was a lifetime member of the Grant United Methodist Church. Carol married Robert Haines and started a family. After raising her five children, she went to work at the Traverse City State Hospital, working in the Children’s Unit for 17 years. She later married Dean Sheets, adding three more children to her family. Carol was a devoted wife and a supportive mother. She always put her family first and enjoyed looking after her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and made a tradition out of it; spending time in Lakeland Florida every year for over 18 years.

Carol is survived by her children; Robert “Doug” (Louise) Haines, Steven (Carolyn) Haines, Joanne Rikli, Donald (Cheri) Haines, Allen Sheets, Grant (Loretta) Sheets, and Susan (Duane) Runyon; siblings, Bea Jakielek, Mary Lea Hansen, and Phyllis (John) Haggard; sister-in-law, Bonnie Grant; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding Carol in death are her parents, husband, Dean Sheets; son, David Haines; and siblings, Carmen Bonebrake, Ronnie Stevens, and Donnie Stevens.

Carol’s funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11 am at Grant United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley. Memorial contributions may be made to the church with “Carol Sheets Memorial-Camp” on the memo line.
