Christopher Probst, 67, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 6, 1958, in Long Branch, NJ, he grew up in the D.C. metro area. A proud graduate of Marshall University and a veteran with 23 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and Air Guard, he served his country with honor and integrity.
Over the years, Chris embraced a diverse career path, including roles as a counselor, massage therapist, and the cherished role of a pastor's spouse. He ultimately found his dream job as a stay-at-home dad, pouring love and wisdom into his family.
Chris was the devoted husband of Amy, a proud father to his beloved daughters Anna Grace, Callie, and Cassie, and a caring companion to his faithful sidekick, Sir Oakley Cooper. He is survived by his brothers Phillip (Sue), Richard, and Robert (Katie), as well as a host of nieces and nephews, a faithful mother-in-law, and a brother-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents, father-in-law, and other loved ones who paved the way for his spiritual journey.
Active in 12-step fellowships for 38 years, Chris was a beacon of resilience and recovery, demonstrating humor, generosity, deep spirituality, and unwavering faith. Despite battling numerous health challenges in recent years, he lived his life with a mantra to leave every person he met better—or at least not worse—for their interaction.
A man of profound wisdom and wit, Chris was known for his memorable phrases, often saying “poof!” as if to underscore the fleeting yet beautiful nature of life. Even in moments of frustration, like dealing with other drivers, he’d find gratitude in the opportunity to practice patience, tolerance, acceptance, and love.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at noon. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 12. Following the service, Chris will be buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mafair UMC or a charity of your choice, honoring his enduring legacy of kindness and service.
Chris touched countless lives with his humor, wisdom, and open heart. He will be deeply missed but remembered fondly by all who were privileged to know him.
