Georgie Olinger Wright peacefully entered the presence of Jesus on November 24, 2024, at the age of 89. Known for her kind and giving heart, Georgie was equally celebrated for her feisty humor and unwavering faith. A devoted servant of the Lord, she generously gave her time and energy to ministries such as God of Second Chances, Anne’s Sisters, and the Bill Glass Prison Ministry. Over the years, she faithfully served at Glenwood Baptist, Indian Springs Baptist, Higher Ground Baptist, and Temple Baptist Churches.
Her life was a testament to love and care, marked by her selfless caregiving for friends, her mother, her mother-in-law, and her beloved husband. Georgie and Earl Wright shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together they traveled, served, and created cherished memories with family and their close-knit group of friends. Their deep bond as best friends brought joy to all who knew them and gives comfort in imagining their joyful reunion in heaven.
Georgie retired from EASTMAN Kodak after 33 years of dedicated service, occasionally taking on temporary assignments following her retirement. She loved shopping, traveling, reading and playing cards.
Awaiting her in heaven were her parents, Roy and Ida Olinger; her brother, Richard Carl Olinger; Earl’s parents, Rev. Freeman and Wilma Wright; and, of course, her dear husband, Earl. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her “Granddaughter by Choice,” Abby (Jordan) Weaver; her cousin, Denise (Alan) Goodwin; and her special friends Barbara Sapp, Kathleen Shanks, Gerry and Dee Frazier, Donna Dougherty, Suzie Williams, Judy Sargusa, and Judy Wesemen. She will also be missed by many cousins and lifelong friends.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at 12:00pm at East Lawn Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Aaron Rayburn.
In lieu of flowers, Georgie requested donations in her memory to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Her granddaughter extends special thanks to the exceptional staff at Preston Place for nearly five years of making Georgie’s home warm and welcoming, and to the incredible team of caregivers who surrounded her with love and comfort in her final days.
Georgie’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service, and her memory will remain a source of inspiration and joy to all who knew her.
