Irene Sanders

Irene Sloat Sanders, age 97 of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 under the care at Wilkes Senior Village. She was born in Blountville, TN, on August 22, 1915, a daughter to the late Charles Victor and Cora Taylor Sloat. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her son, Stanley Sanders and wife Janet Sanders of Bear, Delaware; her daughter Judy Kirk and husband Rick Kirk of North Wilkesboro; and daughter Joan Perdue of Boone, North Carolina and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including: Thomas Elsea, Judy Hagan, Donald Barnes, Helen Sloat, Mary Jean Shannon and Jennifer Morton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J. Arthur Sanders; four sisters: Kathleen Sloat Elsea, Virginia Sloat, Lucille Sloat Barnes and Jean Sloat Morton; and three brothers: Donald Moore Sloat, Luther Dean Sloat and Kenneth Sloat. Mrs. Sanders was married to her husband of 40 years on September 30, 1952. She assisted him as the minister’s wife at several Presbyterian churches in North Carolina and Virginia. There was a private burial service in East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport, Tennessee. A Memorial service will be held on September 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Tennessee. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.eastlawnkingsport.com.
