James C Scott, age 71, was born March 12, 1953 in Pennington Gap, VA to the late Rev. Lloyd Scott and the late Virginia Parsons Scott. He went to dwell in the presence of Jesus on Friday, January 10, 2025 after a lengthy illness. He was affectionately known to family and friends as Jim. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lee Scott and David Scott.
Jim grew up in Northeast Ohio where he helped establish the Perry Church of God with his parents and graduated Perry High School in 1971.
In March of 1977, Jim met the love of his life, Robin Stapleton Scott, whom he married on May 20, 1978. He became a “daddy” in May, 1979 to daughter Rachel Scott who he nicknamed baby bright eyes. Jim’s love for gospel music was shared through his God given talent for the piano, flat top guitar, bass guitar, melodica, organ, ukulele, and mandolin. Jim served as piano player at the Church of God in Perry, OH until 1981. Jim accepted a new position as music minister at East Heisley Church of God in Mentor, Ohio. Jim, Robin and Rachel were part of the East Heisley Church until November 1983 when they moved to Van Alstyne, Texas. Jim’s ministry of music was shared at the Church of God in Van Alstyne and McKinney, Texas. In 1986, Jim, Robin and Rachel were blessed to move to East Tennessee. Over the years of 1986 – 2023, Jim and Robin served in music ministry at these churches: Kingsport Evangel Temple, North Kingsport Church of God, Beverly Hills Tabernacle (Wise, VA), Christian Life Fellowship (Big Stone Gap, VA), Rose Hill Church of God (VA), and New Vision Church of God (Johnson City, TN).
Jim also worked a full time job for many years before moving to disability after stage 4 cancer in 2014. His great love and faith in God allowed him to continue serving God and ministering in music even while surviving serious medical issues throughout his adult life. He took great joy in traveling with his family to all 50 states, several countries, and creating precious memories.
Jim is survived by his wife, Robin Scott, daughter, Rachel Scott of Johnson City, TN, brother, Daniel (Doris) Scott of Ewing, VA, Sister-in-law, Lana Morris of Moultrie, GA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as three great nieces.
